Western University of Health Sciences
Pomona, California

TRC Worldwide Engineering, Inc. is providing structural engineering design and construction administration services on this multi-story facility that will support the Colleges of Medicine at Western University. The project consists of two distinct areas: the four-story portion will house classrooms, research laboratories, and associated administrative and support disciplines, and will be designed for the addition of one future floor; the three-story section will house two side-by-side auditoriums.

Key Structural Components
Elevated floors are composed of concrete on metal deck supported by a composite structural steel floor system.
Vibration analysis of elevated floors based on human comfort and maximum vibrational velocity limits for laboratory equipment.
Auditorium roof constructed of a structural steel frame supporting long span, open web, steel roof joists in order to provide column free space.
It is anticipated that a dual system of ductile moment-resisting frames and concrete shearwalls will be used to provide lateral stability of the structure and allow the unique architectural features of the building.
