The Challenge

Designing a stadium of this scale and significance in a dense urban setting presented several engineering and coordination challenges:

  • Supporting long-span, column-free seating and event spaces
  • Coordinating complex construction phasing within a tight timeline
  • Achieving high structural precision for fit-out and modular systems
  • Integrating with architectural vision and sustainability objectives
  • Delivering durable materials for Nashville’s climate

TRC’s Solution

TRC Worldwide Engineering was selected to lead the precast engineering design and project management of a substantial portion of the stadium’s structure. Our scope included design and detailing for over 367,000 square feet of precast concrete elements

  • Stadia: Load-bearing precast seating risers designed for durability, acoustics, and ease of installation.
  • Slabs: Horizontal precast floor systems supporting circulation and hospitality zones.
  • Stairs & Wall Panels: Modularized for offsite fabrication and rapid onsite assembly.

Key Contributions

Precast Coordination & Detailing

Engineered and modeled thousands of precast components for fast-track fabrication and on-site assembly.

Design Integration

Worked closely with the architectural and structural design teams to ensure the precast scope aligned with the stadium’s circular design and ETFE roof.

Schedule Optimization

By leveraging off-site precast production, TRC’s design approach helped accelerate installation and reduce on-site congestion.

Sustainability Alignment

Precast systems aid LEED Gold Certification by minimizing waste, enhancing thermal performance, and offering design flexibility

The Outcome

The New Nissan Stadium represents a milestone for TRC, showcasing our ability to deliver high-performance precast solutions for complex, world-class sports facilities. Our early delivery of precast elements by 2025 supports the fast-track schedule and highlights our commitment to execution excellence. As construction progresses, the stadium will stand as a symbol of Nashville’s cultural vibrancy and TRC’s engineering leadership in the sports and entertainment market.
