TRC provided structural engineering design and construction administration services for the University’s $25 million College of Law at the University Park Campus in Miami.

The 151,368-square-foot facility houses an auditorium, teaching laboratories, study centers, offices, and campus support services. Nearly half of the assignable space is dedicated to the three-story Law Library, designed to accommodate approximately 200,000 volumes in print and micro formats. Academic spaces include 60- and 80-seat tiered classrooms and two mock courtrooms, each featuring a Judge’s bench modeled after the scale of the U.S. Supreme Court.

The structural system combines reinforced concrete slabs on precast concrete joists with high-strength, load-bearing concrete masonry exterior walls supported by shallow spread footings. The reading room is framed with long-span composite steel wide-flange beams that span 50 feet above the auditorium below, creating an open and elevated academic environment. The auditorium itself features 35-foot-high glazed walls supported by a structural steel frame and long-span open-web steel roof joists.
