The Multidisciplinary Research Building at the University of Notre Dame brings together the College of Science and the College of Engineering within an open, collaborative laboratory environment focused on drug discovery.

Positioned to anchor a new campus quad, the facility initiates the formation of an internal courtyard that will be shared by future research buildings, reinforcing long-term campus growth. Offices and research centers are strategically clustered at the building’s “knuckle” to foster interaction and interdisciplinary collaboration.

The laboratory layout was designed for flexibility and adaptability. Modular lab bays accommodate both hood-intensive and less hood-intensive research, with two primary bays of modular benches and fume hoods supported by an adjacent flex zone capable of functioning as lab, support, or team space. Dedicated team areas are positioned adjacent to the flex zones and can be reconfigured to suit evolving research groups and program demands.
